QRY: Dream Come true..
Students at Dhaulvalli walked barefoot for 7km to attend school. Not anymore, thanks to the zealous efforts of P. K. Gokhale.
A remote village in Kokan had abundance of natural beauty and fruit trees, however, almost for 20 years after independence did not have adequate education facilities. The children had to walk for over 7 kms, to get secondary education. This road was winding up and down through the hilly region. Because of this, many children would stop schooling after primary and most of them would be girls. P. K. Gokhale promoted the society Dhaulvalli Gram Vikas Mandal Mumbai to establish the school in memory of his mother late Sau Anandibai Krishnaji Gokhale.
The school started its
operations on 14th June 1982. It took six years to get a government
grant. P. K. Gokhale strived very hard, using his personal funds and all his
resources to keep the school going. Unfortunately, he expired and the grant was
soon received on 1st October 1988, after his death. His sons Shyam
Gokhale and Keshav Gokhale picked up the baton and took over the challenge to
lead from the front with the team of close associates.
The school hosted
district science exhibition in academic year 1996-97. On 28th March
1997, the school received the Ideal School award. Computer education delivery
started from 1999 and now there is a state of art computer lab. Vocational
Education and training Centre is also set up to provide livelihood to the village
youth.
