Mission Computer Lab

In today-s techno-savvy world, the girls of Shradhanand ashram were left behind. Read more on how they handled this challenge.

In the heart of Mumbai city, there is an Ashram with a glorious past. Set up way back in 1927 to provide shelter and helping hand to Hindu Women who faced problems due to social, cultural and economic situations. Swami Shhraddhanand, disciple of Arya Samaj Founder Maharshi Dayanand founded the Ashram with his contemporaries, Shri B.G. Kher, Barrister Jaykar, Shri R.D.Birla and Shri V.L.Napoo,etc. Currently it is working with 180 orphans of aged 0-18 in balgruha and also shelter for women irrespective of caste or religion.

The Ashramkanyas from 6-18 years attend different schools in the neighbourhood.They are also coached in many co-curricular activities such as music,dance and sports. The Ashramkanyas above 18 years attend college,vocational courses.They are also married through the Ashram on receiving suitable proposals. Some of them undertake vocational courses and work outside.

The need was felt by Shhradhanand Management to set up a Computer lab for the girls to facilitate usage of Computers to unleash the power of internet to enhance the knowledge of the world. Team EachOneEnrichOne (E1E1) pledged to support this need.

Anjoo Navalkar of Team E1E1   started of by working out a CSR Project Proposal, consisting of Project concept document with the financial requirements and Project Plan. She prepared a presentation PPT with a video  and accompanied the Shhradhanand Managing Committee, Dr. Sunil Desai and Prof. Sumitra Paradkar members to present the same to Sulzer Pumps India Ltd. Impressed by the work carried out by Shhradhanand Mahila Ashram, Sulzer Pumps, decided to financially support the Computer lab project.

On receipt of funds, by the Ashram, Tejwant Navalkar of Team E1E1, prepared a Request for proposal document to purchase all equipments for the Lab. Dr. Sunil Desai, his classmate Anant Pundalik  and  the ashram team, did the procurement and ensured that the Computer lab was ready for use.

Simultaneously, Manisha Datar of Team E1E1 put together a detailed course plan for imparting computer education. She spearheaded the  team consisting of  the computer teachers  appointed by the ashram, Dr. Sunil Desai to execute action. The girls were divided into batches age wise and suitable course material was designed for them. Manisha prepared detailed course schedule and did the hand-holding till the course commencement.

The Computer Centre was formally inaugurated by dignitaries from Sulzar Pumps on 20th July 2016.
